During refurbishment in the early 1990's, Paisley Abbey's many gargoyles had to be taken down and replaced because they had crumbled and were in very bad condition. Reverend Alan Birss said most of the gargoyles were replaced during a refurbishment in the early 1990s. He thinks that one of the stonemasons was simply having a bit of fun.
